Employee Volunteerism

Commitment to Community

Every day, Coast Central employees demonstrate their commitment to our communities by providing outstanding service to members and lending their time and expertise to numerous non-profit organizations.

Our belief in the longtime credit union motto of “People Helping People” holds true through encouraging volunteerism throughout the areas that we serve and acknowledging employees for their valuable contributions. Each year, four Volunteers of the Quarter and a Volunteer of the Year are named.

Our employees give back!

CCCU's Recent Volunteers of the Quarter

Cathryn Noel-Veatch, Senior Marketing Coordinator
In 2023, Cathryn volunteered a whopping total of 552 hours and in the 1st quarter 2024 gave 163. She cleans communities with PacOut Green Team and Community United of North Arcata; volunteers every Saturday at Morris Graves Museum, when organizing a sponsorship for Project Linus, she crocheted blankets herself. When she learned that CCCU hadn’t participated in the Redwood Discovery Museum’s Perilous Plunge for years, she successfully created a large team and wowed the crowd. She volunteers for Equity Arcata, Eureka Warming Center, and judges and coaches local History Day students. Congrats and thank you!

Jera Newland, Member Services Manager – Eureka Downtown
In 4th quarter 2023, Jera gave her time and energy to nine organizations for a total of 64 hours, and for the year 2023, volunteered a total of 230 hours! In addition to encouraging her whole team to volunteer, she is on the Board for Cancer Crushers, helped out with Coasts for Kids, Friends of the Fair, multiple local schools, Kiwanis, and the Eureka Chamber of Commerce. Thank you, Jera, for consistently embodying our “People Helping People” approach and for all you do for our community!

Brandy Castro, Cash Vault Supervisor
Brandy logged over 100 hours in 2023, half of which were in 3rd quarter. But more importantly, it’s the significance of her time and the impact she makes, without ever looking for recognition or attention. She selflessly devoted many hours of training to be equipped to volunteer with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office’s Search & Rescuer (SAR) and its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to keep our community safe. She also participated in a kickball tournament on CCCU’s “Kick Butt Coasties”, which raised money to replace Rio Dell School’s playground equipment damaged in last year’s earthquakes. Congrats and thank you!

Mandy Marquez, Senior AVP/Manager, Business Services
Mandy logged 62 hours for 12 organizations and had volunteer time for 30 days during the quarter. Non-profits who she positively impacted include Soroptimist of Eureka, Hydesville School Board, CR’s President’s Advisory Council, Arcata Economic Development Crop, and more. Mandy lends her wisdom, insight, time, and care to each of these, always aiming to make things better.
