Employee Volunteerism

Commitment to Community

Every day, Coast Central employees demonstrate their commitment to our communities by providing outstanding service to members and lending their time and expertise to numerous non-profit organizations.

Our belief in the longtime credit union motto of “People Helping People” holds true through encouraging volunteerism throughout the areas that we serve and acknowledging employees for their valuable contributions. Each year, four Volunteers of the Quarter and a Volunteer of the Year are named.

Our employees give back!

CCCU's Recent Volunteers of the Quarter

Claudia Serrano-Ramirez, Crescent City MSB Member Relationship Services Specialist
Claudia volunteered a total of 60 hours during the quarter for 4 organizations, all aimed at providing opportunities for and supporting local youth. She coaches soccer, attends school PTSO meetings to plan fundraisers, volunteers at community events, works the snack bar at football games, organizes Halloween Trick or Treating for youth groups, and more. Claudia is fiercely determined to improve the lives of kids in Del Norte County in a variety of ways, advocating for their needs. Thank you, Claudia, for sharing your huge heart with the youth in your community – they, and we, are so fortunate to have you!

Ryann Cormier, Loan Admin Specialist
Ryann volunteered a total of 103 hours for 4 organizations, all dedicated to supporting local youth: Cutten Ridgewood Recreation Association, Ridgewood School, PTA, and Humboldt Youth Soccer League. She coaches, attends meetings, works the snack bars, runs errands, takes inventory, helps in classrooms, chaperones field trips, and more. Although she is a part-time employee with perhaps more extra time than full-time employees, she clearly fills any spare moments she has away from work sharing her huge heart with hundreds of kiddos in our community. Thank you, Ryann, and congrats on your well-earned recognition!

Cathryn Noel-Veatch, Senior Marketing Coordinator
In 2023, Cathryn volunteered a whopping total of 552 hours and in the 1st quarter 2024 gave 163. She cleans communities with PacOut Green Team and Community United of North Arcata; volunteers every Saturday at Morris Graves Museum, when organizing a sponsorship for Project Linus, she crocheted blankets herself. When she learned that CCCU hadn’t participated in the Redwood Discovery Museum’s Perilous Plunge for years, she successfully created a large team and wowed the crowd. She volunteers for Equity Arcata, Eureka Warming Center, and judges and coaches local History Day students. Congrats and thank you!

Jera Newland, Member Services Manager – Eureka Downtown
In 4th quarter 2023, Jera gave her time and energy to nine organizations for a total of 64 hours, and for the year 2023, volunteered a total of 230 hours! In addition to encouraging her whole team to volunteer, she is on the Board for Cancer Crushers, helped out with Coasts for Kids, Friends of the Fair, multiple local schools, Kiwanis, and the Eureka Chamber of Commerce. Thank you, Jera, for consistently embodying our “People Helping People” approach and for all you do for our community!
