Sessa announced that its Board of Directors has approved a total of $150,000 in grants to 24 local organizations, the highest number ever in the history of its 16-year-old Community Investment Program. A total of 87 non-profits had requested $1.1 million. Coast Central also supports its communities through sponsorships and college scholarships for a total of $650,000 annually throughout Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties. In a concerning development reported on March 19, Coast Central Credit Union has issued an urgent warning to its members about a sophisticated phone scam designed to defraud them. Members have reported receiving fraudulent calls from an individual posing as a Coast Central employee, with the caller ID misleadingly displaying the credit union’s main number, (707) 445-8801. The scammer, claiming to be affiliated with the credit union, has been contacting members under the guise of needing to verify recent or pending transactions. Coast Central Credit Union (CCCU) announced it is currently accepting applications for college scholarships, available to graduating high school seniors in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties. Scholarships are awarded in the amount of up to $5,000 each, disbursed over a four-year period. Up to 25 recipients will be selected based on multiple factors, including an essay on overcoming adversity; financial need; commitment to education, either through academic performance or consistent improvement during high school; and community and/or school involvement. As a fall 2023 recipient of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco’s (FHLBank San Francisco) AHEAD Economic Development Grant Program, Arcata House Partnership (AHP) recently received a disbursement of $70,000 facilitated by Coast Central Credit Union. Kay Serotta, formerly Arcata Uniontown Manager, has been promoted to the new position of Assistant Vice President/Member Services Branches South, overseeing management and operational activities in locations in Arcata Eureka, and Fortuna.
